Thiele, Mary Gertrude (nee Getzlaf).
Mary passed away on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home in Regina. Mary, at the age of 94, predeceased by her husband Albert in 1997, her daughters Bernadette (1967) and Janet Pakula (2004), sons Fred (1967) and Larry (2005), and grandson Ken Flowers. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Kathy Flowers (John), Eileen Friedt (Ed), Wilf (Nancy), Adrian, Laurie Ruhr (Pat), Betty, Linda Pelletier (Rene), Marj, Riet Chernick (Glenn), Anna, Bonnie Palmer (Alex), and daughter-in-law Patty Thiele. Her memory will be cherished by her 30 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, by her sister Anne Mailley and by her many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was born to Jacob and Anna Getzlaf on April 21st 1916. She grew up and attended school in Spring Valley. She married Albert in 1935, and eventually took over the family farm. The couple raised their 15 children in Spring Valley, retiring to Moose Jaw in 1972. After their retirement, they spent time gardening and caring for their home, but mostly enjoyed getting together with their children and grandchildren. They faithfully attended Church of Our Lady in Moose Jaw. Mary and Albert were married for 62 years. Within a year of Albert’s passing in 1997, failing health led Mary to move into a personal care home in Moose Jaw, and later on to Regina. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and preparing meals for numerous family gatherings. A prayer service will be held at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W. Moose Jaw, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3rd, 2011. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 4th, 1:00 p.m. at Church of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church, 566 Vaughan St., Moose Jaw, with an interment service to follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
