GORDON (nee McComber), Susan Alexa –With heavy hearts, the family of Susan Alexa Gordon (nee McComber) announces that Sue passed from this life surrounded by family in her home on the evening of October 20, 2008 after a sudden illness and a courageous and dignified fight. Susie Q was a marvellous woman, a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, sister-in-law and community volunteer. She was very passionate about soccer and basketball. Many will remember her coaching, cheering and volunteering with dozens of teams over the years and few could question her knowledge of the game — both on and off the field. Those who knew Susan understood what she meant to her work within Government Services for over 30 years. She was a proud and passionate civil servant in her numerous capacities and she will be missed. Born May 2 1956, Sue lived in Winnipeg and there she met her surviving loving husband Doug Gordon at age 14. She found true love and came to Newfoundland to be with Doug after school. Married in 1975, Sue and Doug filled their hearts and their home with children John-Paul and Melanie, Sarah and Jon (Williams) and Melissa. Sue was the perfect mother — loving, doting, affectionate, involved and protective of her kids and they and their friends filled her life. She was truly loved by many. Also missing Susie are parents Cathy and Don McComber, brothers David, Dana and wife Brenda, sister Jennifer Cameron and daughter Micaela, the Gordon family, Kathy, Dan and Travis Maher, her forever friend Trish MacDonald, Julie Gorman and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers. A special thanks to Dan, Kathy and Travis for everything that they have done over the years and especially during this difficult time. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Sue\'s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society\'s Daffodil Place. We would like to thank Thelma and Albert Williams and all other family and friends for their support, best wishes and comfort. Friends are invited to remember Susan with the family at Barrett’s Funeral Home on Commonwealth Ave., Mount Pearl on Thursday October 23rd and Friday October 24th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. each day. A memorial service will be held at Gower Street United Church on Saturday October 25th, 2008 at 1 p.m. Burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
