It is with sadness we announce the passing of Lucy MacDonald, 98, of New Waterford on March 3, 2011, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Firman and Cecile (Roach) Chiasson.
Lucy was a dedicated member of St. Agnes parish, where she was involved with the choir and during summer months cooked at the St. Agnes camp in Sangaree. In later years, she became a member of Mount Carmel Church and was actively involved with the CWL.
Lucy was also a member of the Ladies L’Assumption Society, Cercle Evangeline, New Waterford Pensioners’ Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. She was an avid bowler who was active into her 80s.
Known as a very social person, she loved to get out and play darts with her team and attend dances at the Pensioners’ Club. An annual family tradition she held close to her heart was her birthday gatherings. Every year, including this one, her immediate and extended family would get together at a restaurant to celebrate her birthday.
Surviving are son, Greg (Margaret) O’Connor, New Waterford; daughter, Lynda (Edward) Steiger, River Ryan; grandchildren, Bill, Sandra, Glenn, Jamael, Christopher and Keigan; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Ryan and Reese; several nieces and nephews.
Lucy was predeceased by husbands, Wilmot O’Connor and Edward MacDonald, one son, Paul, two brothers, Paul and Evé, three sisters, Anna Ryan Martin, Effie MacKenzie and Evelyn Baldin.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Lucy will take place Monday, March 7 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
