August 26th, 1939 – February 28th, 2011. Passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer. Shirley was born in Burin and enjoyed a long nursing career in Stephenville before retiring in St. John’s. She is predeceased by her parents Alphonsus and Josephine Penney; brother Gordon and nephew Gary Penney. Leaving to mourn her sisters Eleanor Dobbin and Myra McCormick (Paul); brothers Don (Betty) and George; sister-in-law Susie Penney Cheeseman and Aunt Marion Manning of Burin. And many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and many close friends. Shirley was a world-traveller who lived a productive and adventurous life. She was much loved. Thank you to her doctors and the nurses at the Health Science Complex, the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic and the Palliative Care Unit at the L.A. Miller Centre for their kindness and care, also the staff at Tiffany Village. At Shirley’s request, cremation has taken place. Celebration of her life to be held at a later date.
