TREFRY, Elizabeth Alice “Betty” (nee Fitzgerald) – 98, of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on March 1, 2011. Born on June 23, 1912, in East Chebogue, Yarmouth Co., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Julia (Meuse) Fitzgerald. Betty was a homemaker all her life and loved baking, making quilts and gardening. She had a keen interest in current events, world news and enjoyed sharing her views. Dearly loved by family, she has been cherished for her wisdom, common sense, her compassion for others and especially her deep faith. She was a loyal friend to so many people in her lifetime. She is survived by daughter, Sharon Trefry, Yarmouth; sisters, Adeline Cook, Yarmouth; Antoinette Evans and Isabelle Jordan, both of Toronto; grandchildren, Virginia (Mark) Boudreau, Patricia Trefry and Philip Trefry, all of Yarmouth; William Harding, Ottawa; Gregory (Rhonda) Harding, Halifax; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Robert Austin; sons, Robert Henry in childbirth, Robert Malcolm; daughter, Lorraine Elizabeth; sisters, Ethel Bowers, and Charlotte Muise; brothers, George, Alphonse and Benoit Fitzgerald; grandsons, Richard Trefry and Steven Harding; daughter-in-law, Mariette; son-in-law, Edwin Harding. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Thursday, March 3 from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral mass was held Friday, March 4 at 10 a.m. from St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Victorian Order of Nurses – Tri-County Branch or to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend thanks to Continuing Care and the special angels at Home Support and the Victorian Order of Nurses.
