Betty Frances Hanson of Eastend, Sask. passed away suddenly at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre in Shaunavon, Sask. on Feb 25, 2011. She was born in the Stone District on Sept. 21, 1929. Betty obtained her schooling at Antelope Lake, Leechville, and Shaunavon schools. After graduation she worked at the Bank of Montreal in Eastend until her marriage to Roland Hanson on Sept 21, 1949. They left for B.C. on their honeymoon and returned 3 years later with 2 children, Gordon and Judy. Brenda was born 5 years later. Roland and Betty lived on the farm south of Dollard, until they moved to Eastend in 1992. Betty was a wealth of knowledge. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. She worked endlessly on her knitting and cross stitch quilts. Betty loved her garden, yard and flowers. Family and friends were an important part of her life. Betty was predeceased by her parents Doyle and Hildur Pattison, infant son Ralph, and daughter Brenda. She is survived by her husband Roland, her sister Jean Johnson of Shaunavon, and brother Jon (Diane) Pattison of White Gull, Alta., her children Gordon Hanson of Golden Prairie, Sask. and grandchildren, Brandy Runzer (Dustin Harrison) Victoria, B.C., Crystal and Tyler Hanson, Eastend Sask.; Judy Hanson (Rick Moe) of Swift Current, Sask. and grandchildren, Tracy Lawson (Dean) Medicine Hat, Alta., Travis Schlageter (Jackie Withrow) Golden Prairie, Sask. and Tanya Neufeld (Doug) Swift Current, Sask.; Brenda’s children, Daniel Desautels, Medicine Hat, Alta., Ieasha Desautels (Lance Retzer) Red Deer, Alta., Coral Elliot, Red Deer, Alta., Robert Elliott (Tanya) Brooks, Alta. Betty was also blessed with 12 great grandchildren, Ryan, Kristopher, Wyatt, Austin, Kade, Sara, Sam, Christian, Joshua, Alyssa, Baylee and Damien. Funeral Services were held from Eastend United Church in Eastend on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 2:00 a.m. with Pastor Martin Christensen officiating. The eulogy was presented by Ken and Ethel Wills and the organist was Linda Wig. Cremation preceded the service.
