Barbara Jean Grant

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Grant of Fredericton, NB with her family at her side on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was the wife of Frederick Allen "Fred" Grant. Born in Cross Creek, N.B. on May 15, 1927 she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Kearney) Hossack. The family moved to Fredericton in 1936 where Jean grew up in North Devon on St. Mary's Street and later made her home in Barker's Point. Jean was a homemaker, an accomplished cook and avid gardener. She was devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed their visits. Jean is survived by Fred, her loving husband of 67 years; her sons, Danny Grant (Linda), John Grant, Paul Grant, Jerry Grant (Carolyn MacKay) and Tony Grant, all of Fredericton; daughter Barbara Leachman (Steven) of Burtts Corner, NB; grandchildren Kelly Grant, Jeff Grant, Paula Grant, Victoria Leachman, Lisa Leachman, Brittany Grant and Hayley Grant; great grandchildren Jessica Grant, Brooklyn Grant and Jordan Szmidt; two sisters, Pat Cormier of Moncton and Ann Doucet (Herb) of Saint John; and special nephew Steven Hossack of Fredericton. She was predeceased by infant daughter Patricia; brothers George Hossack and John Hossack; nephew Brian Hossack; and daughter-in-law Janice (Mofford) Grant. Fred and family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Wecare Home Health Services, in particular Sara for all her assistance with Jean's at home personal care, and to Dr. A. G. Plummer and the nursing staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their care and attention to Jean during her time in hospital.
Visitation will take place at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will take place at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 512 Charlotte Street, Fredericton, NB on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. Blaikie officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated by the family.
