Myrtle Emma Stewart, 91, Big Intervale, Margaree Valley, Inverness Co., died March 4, 2011, at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Born in Big Intervale, she was the daughter of the late James and Mildred (Ethridge) Marple. She was a member of Big Intervale United Church, Big Intervale, UCW. She worked hard bringing up five children by herself. When the children went away to school, she worked outside the home for many years.
Her favourite past time was knitting. She enjoyed baking and making preserves, which she did for many years. She loved flowers and plants. She had a great love for the Big Intervale and was able to maintain her independence there. She was a generous person, always willing to help if needed.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by sons, Allan (Eva), Earl (Jean); daughters, Mary Gillard (Sib), Sally Smith, Ellen Macdonald (Jess); brothers, Howard (Florence), Earl (Margaret); sisters, Jessie Tufts, Rita Wrywas; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Kenneth; sisters, Eulah Chandler, Kathleen Ross, Marguerite Cloney; brothers, Clarence and Lewis and son-in-law, Gregory Smith.
The body is resting at Wilson United Church Hall with visitation hours today (Tuesday), 7-9 p.m., Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre with Rev. Boyce Elliott officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to Big Intervale Cemetery Fund or Inverness Palliative Care.
