William Clyde ‘Billy’ Grant, 91, of Kent Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011, under the wonderful care of the folks in the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Kathleen (Anderson) Grant.
Billy was a proud veteran of the Second World War and while in Belgium, met and married the love of his life, Germaine. Dad had a warm and friendly smile and made friends wherever he went. He liked to greet people with a Christian hug. For most of his career, he worked at David’s Market and retired from Tops grocery store. Billy was an elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church and a member of the men’s choir. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Golden K and a longtime camper at Ben Eoin Beach.
Surviving are his son, Gary (Joan); son-in-law, Frank (Nancy); granddaughter, Debbie Sneddon (Andrew); grandsons, David Masters (Debbie), Bill Masters, Richard Grant (Tanya) and Sheldon Grant; great-grandson, DJ Masters.
Billy was predeceased by his wife and best friend of 50 years, Germaine and daughter, Louise (Grant) Masters.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church on Wednesday 11 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church (Camp MacLeod).
