Reginald Miller
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden death of Reverend Reg Miller at his home in Fredericton. Born in Cardiff Wales on July 1st, 1918. Reg went to be with his Lord and with his beloved wife Monica on March 6, 2011.
Reg was a tireless servant of Christ. He was Minister of St, Andrews United Church in Chatham NB for 20 years. Upon his retirement he served as Canadian Air Force Chaplain at St. Margaret’s Radar Base until he moved to Fredericton in 1987. He was the Chaplain at Fredericton’s Branch #4 Legion for the past 24 years. His voice always rang clear at the Remembrance Day ceremonies as he spoke from the podium. (In WW2 he was a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy on the battleship HMS Valliant where he was a crewmate of HRH Prince Phillip.) He was also the Service Officer of Branch #4 for 18 years. Reg also served as Minister Emeritus at St. Paul’s United Church and at the Central N.B. Welsh Society. He earned a Masters of Divinity from Mount Allison University. Among his many medals and awards, he was awarded the Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award and the Fredericton’s Unsung Hero Award. He served as Past Provincial President of the N.B. Royal Canadian Legion and Past Provincial President of the NB Hospital Association. Reg, (Grampy as his grandchildren knew him or “Gar” as his great grandchildren knew him), was predeceased by his parents Charles and Margaret, sister Grace and wife Monica. He is survived by his two sons: Roger (Brenda) and Bob (Colleen), six grandchildren: Michelle (Joe), David (April); Sarah (Mirko), Ian (Stephanie) and their mother Daphne Curtis; Jeremy (Pam) and Keith (Melissa) and five great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Maleki, Isabella, Adrian and Nolan. Dad was a true man of God and a leader in his province and community. But of all his accomplishments his greatest gift was his love and dedication to his family. As Patriarch of the “Miller Clan” he inspired us all to be the best we can be.
Visitation will be held at Bishops Funeral Home 540, Woodstock Road on Tuesday, March 8 between 7pm and 9pm. A celebration of Reg’s life will be held at St. Paul’s United Church in Fredericton, at 2pm Wednesday, March 9, 2011. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute Service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Rev. Reg Miller can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and St. Paul’s United Church, Fredericton www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
