Mr. Ken Getz, 79 of Glace Bay, formerly of Oakland, California, passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Center.
Born in Oakland, Calif., he was the son of the late Albert and Martha (Backofen) Getz.
Ken served for a time with the United States Naval Reserve Corps. While living in the US he worked at Owens Illinois Glass Co. and then moved to Canada in 1972 where he was employed with AECL Canada until his retirement.
Ken is survived by daughters, Yvonne (Jon) Delahunt, Burlington, Ont., Alicia (Eric Gilbert), Halifax; sons, Stephen (Marie), Glace Bay, David (Martina), Coquitlam, B.C. and their mother, Virginia (Blois). Also surviving are nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy of Oakland, Calif. and special nephew, Ronnie Bert.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by sisters, Bernice and Aleene.
There will be no visitation, by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home.
