ANDERSON, Ronald Christie — 75, of West Brooklyn. It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved father on Feb. 26, 2011 at the age of 75. Born in Halifax on Nov.5, 1935, he was the eldest son of Borden and Laura (Christie). During his youth he excelled, along with his brother Kenneth, achieving the rank as King scout. As a young man, he worked at various jobs including the CNR. He later worked with Braemar Pest Control until his retirement. It was at this time that he and his wife, Marina, moved to the Annapolis Valley — their little piece of paradise. Ron had a tremendous green thumb for growing flowers, vegetables and sustaining his beautiful fruit trees and flowering bushes. He also enjoyed carpentry, preparing preserves, crossword puzzles and reading. Ronald was never one to shy away from a good game of Bridge, as well as always taking on a card challenge from any of his grandchildren. He is lovingly remembered by his three children, Ronald (Pam), Halifax, Gerry (Millie), Greenwich, and Crystol Theriault (Glenn), Oxford; beloved grandchildren, Brenden, Timothy, Katelyn, Jenna, Christien, Justyn and Alyssa; sisters, Alicia Toner (George), Ontario, Vivian Pitul (Bill), E. Petpeswick. He was predeceased by his parents, infant son Darryl, brother Kenneth and only four short years ago his loving wife of 50 years, Marina (MacDougall). Everyone acquainted with Ron soon learned he was a man with a kind and giving heart, always putting others needs before his own and offering an encouraging word, with a home that was always open and welcome to all. Although practical and wise he could see the humour in most situations. Ronald was gifted with a quick wit and infectious laugh and very much loved a good practical joke. Ron was well known and liked by all. He was active in the local church community and supported the Brain Injury Association of N.S., BIANS. Arrangements were under the care and direction of Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home & Crematorium, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, NS B4P 1E7. There was no visitation at the family's request. A celebration of Ron's life was held at 1 p.m. Thursday March 3, 2011 at Avonport United Baptist Church. Rev. Gail Whalen-Dunn officiated. A reception followed in the church hall. If so desired, donations may be made to West Brooklyn United Baptist Church, Avonport United Baptist Church or to BIANS.
