MR. ROBERT GEORGE PETERSON
1926 – 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert George Peterson at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, July 12, 2009 with his family by his side. Bob was born in Assiniboia, SK on June 21, 1926. He moved to Meadow Lake with his family in 1930, where they homesteaded in the Compass District. Bob was in the Army from 1943 to 1945 and shortly after in 1947, he married his true love and partner in life, Lois Madeline Taylor. As Bob and Lois began their life together, he worked for the Meadow Lake Creamery for a short time. He then went on to work for the Saskatchewan Timber Board in Meadow Lake. In 1958, Bob and his family moved to Prince Albert to continue his work at the Timberboard where he worked for a total of 35 years until they finally closed. Following that, Bob worked at the South Hill Mall for four years until he retired. During this time, Bob and Lois had three beautiful children, Dianne, Raymond and Grant. They were his pride and joy and he will always be remembered not only as a loving husband but a gentle and loving father. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois, as well as his daughter Dianne (Lorne) Haberstock, his son Grant (Marlene) Peterson and his daughter-in-law Anne Peterson, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Clarence Peterson of Meadow Lake, two sisters-in-law Francis Peterson and Stella Taylor and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his son Raymond in 1995, his parents Christine (Weidmier) Peterson and George Peterson, brothers Gerald and Clifford, in-laws Agnes and Charles Taylor and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Soft spoken and always a gentleman, Bob will be remembered for the love and kindness that he showed everyone around him. Some of Bob’s passions were watching the Blue Jays on television and gardening, especially taking care of his tomatoes and fruit trees. Bob always had an immaculate yard where he spent many hours working on it. He and Lois also enjoyed time at their cabin at Candle Lake and traveling throughout Western Canada. As requested by Bob, there will be a private family service. Interment will be at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, with arrangements made by River Park Memorial Chapel, Don Moriarty, funeral director. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
