It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their mother, Mary Ellen (Gill) MacDonald on July 11, 2009.
She was born July 13, 1923, in Sydney, and was the daughter of the late James and Winnifred Gill.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil MacDonald.
She is survived by sons, Tom (Joanne), Ontario, Jerome, British Columbia, Roy (Donna), Cole Harbour; daughters, Cecelia (Cameron), Alberta, and Lucina, Fredericton, N.B.; a special daughter-in-law, Alice; granddaughter, Natalie and friend, Audrey. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Catherine Carew, Sydney; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several close friends in Sydney and Dartmouth.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sons, Al, Jimmy, Cecil, David, Ron and Harold, daughter-in-law, Linda, her brother, Tom and sisters, Theresa and Rita.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, immediate cremation has taken place. A service will take place in both Dartmouth and Sydney. The service in Dartmouth will take place Thursday at 3 p.m. in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., with a short reception to follow. On Friday, the service will take place in Sydney Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial will take place immediately afterwards.
Donations in mom’s memory can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or Shriners Hospital for Children, Montreal, Que.
