Flora Thorne

Flora G. Thorne, 90, formerly of Havelock, N.B. passed away comfortably at the Moncton Hospital on March 8, 2011. Flora has been a resident at the Kenneth E Spencer Memorial Home since February 2009. Her husband, Clinton, of 66 years passed away in September 2009. Born in Mont Eagle N.B. on August 23, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Annie Eagles. Flora graduated from Salisbury School on June 28, 1937. She continued her education and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Chipman Memorial Hospital, St Stephen N.B. in 1942. She held several nursing positions, Canada Cement and the Sussex and Moncton hospitals. For years she was known as the Havelock community nurse. After nursing she was employed at the Havelock post office until 1972 and still continued helping people in her community. For years Flora was the Organist at the Havelock United Church and now is a member of Havelock Wesleyan Church. Flora will be sadly missed by son, Claude of Havelock; daughters, Jocelan (Brian) Perry of Salmon Arms, BC; Nancy Lea of Havelock and Barbara Ann (Brian) Melvin of Beaver Harbour, NB and daughter in law, Faye Thorne. Grandchildren Jon (Cindy) Perry; Mike Perry(Alan Hobbs); Peter (Angela) Perry; Shelly(Terry) Leblanc; Anne (Kevin) Corbett; Jennifer (Terry) Duncan; Roy (Megan) Thorne; Todd Mulley; Nathan and Haley Melvin. Great grandchildren Zane, Jared, Jason, Christopher and Nicholas Perry; Lucas and Raelyn Leblanc; Zackery Duncan, Hannah Thorne and Isabel Hobbs Perry. Flora is also leaving behind many friends, nieces and nephews and her second family she grew to love at the Spencer Home. She is predeceased by sister Annabel Lewis and brothers Malcolm, Lewis and Stewart.
Resting at Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visitation Friday, March 11, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and from where the funeral service will be held Saturday, March 12, 4 pm. Interment at the Wesleyan Church Cemetery, Havelock, NB will be held at a later date. In memory of Flora memorials to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
