Mary Gertrude Foote

At home, surrounded by her family, Mary Gertrude “Gert” Foote of Willow Grove passed away Thursday March 10th, 2011. Born 1928 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Nita (Ekstrom) Rogers. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald V. Foote. She will be sadly missed by her children Donna (James) Lavigne, Michael, and Joseph (Murratte Graves). She is also survived and will be missed by her brothers Bernard L. Rogers and Gerald G. (Mary Lou) Rogers, six grandchildren, Lori Lavigne-Santoro (Angelo), Jeffrey (Kerry) Lavigne, Jason (Deanne) Lavigne, Ryan Lavigne, Christopher (Robyn) Lavigne, Patrick Graves; five great grandchildren, Craig Lavergne, Jessie Lavergne, Mikayla Lavigne, Olivia Santoro, and Zachary Lavigne; brothers-in-law Ted Delaney and Sheldon Foote (Ruth) and Merle Foote; and sisters-in-law Lucille Rogers and Gwen Ward; several nieces, nephews and special friends Kay McKillop and Dot MacEwen. Besides her parents and husband, Gert was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Berneata Ritchie, Marion “Marney” Rogers, Charles “Louis” Rogers, Joy Searle, Carol Delaney, and David Rogers. Gertrude worked for many years in the cafeteria at St. Joseph’s hospital as well as other cafeterias in Saint John. After retirement, she devoted her time to volunteering for Meals on Wheels and The Saint John Volunteer Center, with her husband, Don. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish while in good health. Although a dedicated worker and volunteer, Gertrude’s priority in life that gave her the most joy was her family and friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visiting hours on March 12th and 13th Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Parish 4347 Loch Lomond Road on Monday, March 14th , 2011 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow next door in the H.O.P.E Centre for family and friends. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the H.O.P.E Centre, St. Joseph Parish at 4347 Loch Lomond Rd, Saint John, or to the donor’s choice.
