CRANDALL, Ernest Winston “Ernie” - 69, of Port Williams, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Centreville, Kings County, he was a son of Ruth (Moore) Crandall, Centreville and the late Ernest Crandall. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 25 years, retiring in 1986 as Staff Sargeant for the Forensics Unit in Halifax. In 1988, he returned to the Annapolis Valley where he and his wife owned and operated the Subway restaurants in New Minas and Wolfville, the Pizza Delight restaurant in New Minas, as well as Swinamer’s TIM-BR-Mart in Windsor. They developed several commercial properties in New Minas and he was a member of both the R.C.M.P Veteran Association and the Rotary Club of Kentville. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Esther Petersen; a son, Chad, Coldbrook; three brothers, Cecil (Carol), Ontario; Roger and Randy, both of Centreville; nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Diane Morton. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Gerald Zinck officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
