McNEIL, John Alexander, 85, Lake Road, Shelburne County, passed away in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Born in Dartmouth, he was a son of the late Alexander and Anne (Langille) McNeil. John was a devoted father and grandfather. He served overseas during the Second World War and following this spent 35 years working for the Government of Canada. John was an avid amateur radio enthusiast, and loved growing his own vegetables. He enjoyed travelling and spending time with his family. He is survived by sons, Michael (Jo-Ellen), Sandy Point; David (Wendy), Alberta; Donald, Shelburne; Laurie (Crystal), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Johnathan and Matthew, Calgary; Shannon and Sarah, Edmonton, Alta; and Alec, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Anne (Keating) McNeil; sisters, Marion, Constance, Flora and Peggy. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A Legion and Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 12 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home with Father Pat O’Meara officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
