It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Doris Lydia (Butt) MacLean, age 68, of 24 King St., Florence, on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Florence, Doris was the daughter of the late Mildred Alice Butt and the late Kenneth Fry. She was lovingly adopted by her grandparents the late James and Mary Ester Butt, who raised her as their own. She was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence.
Doris enjoyed spending time with her friends playing darts and bingo. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 8, Sydney Mines.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Carmen Hood), Point Aconi, Sherry Shinners (Martin Pottie), Ottawa, Laurie (Bob) Musgrave, with whom she resided and who was her caregiver for the past year, Sydney Mines, Lynn (Dean Standing), Alberta, Carolanne (Brian Steeves), Sydney, Sandra (Walter Best), North Sydney and Barbara (Wayne Morris), New Glasgow and her sons, Sheldon (Sherry), Ontario, Dwayne (Jeannie), Sydney Mines and Darrell at home. Doris is also survived by her sisters, Ada, Claire, Ester, Irene, Jean Marie, Louise and Linda; her brothers, Dennis, Marty, Kenny, and Todd; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and her long time friend, Walter Simpson. Her family would like to send special “Thanks†to Shirley Pentecost and Leonard Marsh.
Besides her parents and grandparents, Doris was predeceased by daughter, Velvet Juanita, husband Delbert MacLean; sisters, Bernadette; her twin sister, Derella, Gerty, Lilly, Ruby, Janie, Violet, Doris Lydia in infancy and brothers, Ernie, Eugene, and Jimmy.
Doris’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Coish, the staff of the Northside General Hospital, and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Visitation for Doris MacLean will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Thursday) July 16, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Friday at 2 p.m. in Wilson United Church, Florence, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s memory can be made to the Lung Association, or to a charity of one’s choice.
