SIMMONS, Heber John “Jack” – Jan. 9, 1931 - Oct. 21, 2008. Retired Captain, St. John\'s Regional Fire Department. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our precious Jack, who slipped peacefully away at the ICU, Health Sciences Complex on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family who were very blessed to have had the privilege to be part of this special man’s life. Predeceased by his first wife Joan (Walsh), son John Preston, parents: Heber and Ellen Simmons; brother Gerald and sister Mary Baines. Left with beautiful memories his wife Angela (nee Marshall); daughters: Barbara Brown (Randy), Alta., Darlene Collins (John); sons: Karl (Juanita), Tony (Krista McGrath); brother Michael (Beverly), N.S.; sister Patricia Robertson (Don - deceased), Texas, the Marshall and O’Grady families; special friends and neighbours: Peter and Jeanette Harvey; grandchildren: Melissa, Karla and Lori Simmons (Mike Campbell), Jonathan Brown (Trish Prosser), Andrew (Leslie Hillyard) and Gregory Collins. Poppy Jack will also be greatly missed by great-grandchildren: Tobie, Keegan and Kristian. Many other relatives and good friends, especially those at the Avalon Woodturners Guild. Special thanks to the staff of the ICU Department, Health Sciences Centre. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., on Thursday and Friday from 2-5 and 7-9. Funeral service will be held from Wesley United Church on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Jack’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or a charity of choice.
