Trenton - William Firth MacNeill, 79, formerly of Cavell St., Trenton, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in Knutsford, PEI, he was a son of the late Raeburn and Velda (Dyment) MacNeill. He worked at Schurmans in Summerside as a carpenter and Eastern Woodworkers and Fraser, Mason and Fraser in New Glasgow. He ran his own carpentry business since 1967 throughout Pictou County. Firth had a great interest in airplanes and had obtained his pilot’s license at age 50.
He will be missed by his wife the former Jean MacDougall; his six children: Joann (Alan) Josselyn, Fredericton, children Nicholas and Andrew; Darlene (Kimble) Meagher, Calgary; Vernon, Winnipeg, children Morgan and Laura; Greg (Jane), Timberlea, children Eric and Gillian; Kevin (Ceci), South Africa, children Jessica and Ryan; David (Nancy), Dubai, children Sara and Rebecca; great grandchild Devon Hicks, son of Morgan and Rob; sisters: Glenn (Harold) Rodd, Summerside, PEI; Lorraine (Lawrence) Harris, Knutsford, PEI; brother: Claire (Harriett), Knutsford, PEI; brother-in-law: William Meggison, Knutsford, PEI. He was predeceased by infant granddaughter Katherine, sister Jean Meggison. Visitation 2-4 pm Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service 2 pm Wednesday in First United Church, Trenton with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only.
