It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Etta Ann MacNeil on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Etta passed peacefully with family by her side after a courageous year long battle with cancer.
She is survived by the love of her life and best friend of 52 years, Vincent; daughters, Celia, Frances (Steven), Sharon (Paul); and son, Douglas (Debi); granddaughters, Erica and Rachel; adopted granddaughters, Kelsey, Elle and Bailey (David and Trina); grandsons, Blake and Wade; nieces, Marianne and Michele; and the extended Frioult family.
Etta’s uniqueness was the interest she took in everyone and how special she made us feel. She loved her family and was happiest when everyone was home. Etta formed wonderful friendships and treasured every one of them. She took great pleasure hosting events, cooking and entertaining. There was always room for one more at Etta’s table.
Etta died as she lived, with dignity and grace, surrounded by people she loved. Throughout her illness many people provided love and support. This made us strong then and will continue to do so during our time of loss. She will be surely missed.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16 at Sacred Heart Church, Sydney, with Fr. Anthony O’Connor and Fr. Joe Gill officiating. Reception to follow the service in the funeral home reception area. A celebration of Etta’s life and her burial will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Big Pond.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
