It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael James ‘Buddy’ MacDonald. Buddy passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side on Saturday, March 12, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Michael James and Mary (Cummings) MacDonald.
Michael was an oil burner mechanic by trade and for many years he worked for McPhee’s Plumbing and Heating in Glace Bay. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing darts and was a member of several dart leagues in our local area.
Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette (Swartzack) MacDonald; daughters, Michelle (Joey) Wall, Glace Bay, Mary (Darcy) Brabant, Calgary, Nadine (Bobby) Saccary, Glace Bay; sons, Michael (Doreen) and Matthew (Katherine), both of Halifax; grandchildren, Richard, Michael Jr., Jasmine, Emily, Samantha, Brooklyn; sister, Clarice (Bobby) MacDonald, Glace Bay; brother, Billy MacDonald, Halifax; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter in infancy.
Visitation for Buddy will be held at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Wednesday, March 16 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
In honoring Michael’s wishes cremation will follow and there will be a private family interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery at a later date.
