Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's, on March 8, 2011. Ronald Benedict Whalen, age 76, from Sweet Bay. Predeceased by his parents, William and Mary (Clancy) Whalen, wife, Elizabeth and daughter, Irene Mary, brothers, Gerald, Raymond, Joe and Jim Whalen, and step brother, Danny Clancy. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are his children, Karen Maloney (John), Joanne Furlong (Peter), Peggy Whalen (Dennis Furlong) and Cathy Philpott (Aiden); grandchildren, Stephen (Ann), Colleen (Philip), Trevor, Bradley, Kirk ( Lindsay ), Evan (Ashley ), Candace, Jessica and Ashley (Kevin); great grandchildren, Megan, Bianca and James; brothers, Bill (Mary - Ellen), Leo (Leona); sisters, Mary - Ellen Ivany (Boyd), Madeline Petten (Cyril) and Theresa Locke (Fred), sisters-in-law, Lillian, Louise and Mary Whalen and many other relatives and friends. Rested at the Roman Catholic Church, Sweet Bay from where the funeral service officiated by Father David Joy, took place on Saturday, March 12 with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour, Random Island.
