SAUNDERS – Donald John

April 28, 1924 – July 15, 2009



Don passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. He was born to parents John and Margaret (nee Castle) on April 28, 1924 in Radisson, SK and was raised in the Halcyonia district. He served in WWII, with the RCAF and RAF as a tail gunner from 1943–1946. On his return to Canada, he resided in Saskatoon, married Agnes in 1949 and then moved to Prince Albert with his family where he established Saunders Electric in 1956. Don is survived by his wife of 60 years Agnes (nee Barth); their children Sandra (Richard) Ruetz, Janice (Doug) Mitchell, Barb (Doug) Jackson, Don (Delores) Saunders and Gail (Gord) Lyons; grandchildren Tara (Clayton) Sovdi, Lian (Trent) Heiser, Deanna (Chris) Schreiner, Greg Mitchell, Mark (Naomi) Mitchell, Kevan Doig, Andy Jackson, Pam Jackson (Steven Rogoschewsky), Hilary, Brittany and Quinten Saunders, Laura, Kristen and Jeff Lyons; 9 great grandchildren; brothers R.V. Bob (Alice), Bob (Gayle) and Alan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sister Joan Waslen and daughter Myrna Doig. Don enjoyed his friends and was a devoted family man. He was a proud supporter of the Raiders & Riders, and loved the times spent first at Waskesiu and then at Christopher Lake. Following a private interment, a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at St. David’s Anglican Church, 500- 24th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Chris Harper officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
