It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of (Florence) Evelyn Loader on March 10, 2011. Evelyn was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, in June of 1923; the fourth of five children born to William and Eliza Grahame of Briarlea. Evelyn attended the one room school house in Briarlea, a year of correspondence, and finished her schooling at the Mountain School, in Banff, Alberta. She was involved in attaining her teacher's certificate at Christopher Robin Kindergarten in Calgary, Alberta, when she changed her focus and joined the Canadian Woman's Army Corp. serving in various locations, including Kitchener-Waterloo and Ottawa, during the Second World War.
Once the war ended, Evelyn was discharged and returned to Calgary where she met John (Jack) Loader, who had served overseas in the Calgary Tank Corp. They were married in July of 1947 and spent the next few years travelling Alberta and Saskatchewan while John worked for Anderson Drilling. The couple finally settled in Briarlea where they farmed and raised their family. Evelyn was actively involved with the Briarlea ACW, the Briarlea Community Hall (convenor), Carmet Court Community Association (secretary/treasurer), The Granny Connection and The Cora Belles. Evelyn faithfully donated blood as often as was permitted.
Evelyn will be remembered for her many talents; her quick and witty sense of humour; her love for music and reading; and time spent in the outdoors, whether it be taking her afternoon walk, gardening or in the berry patch.
Left to celebrate her memory are her three children, Eric (Pauline), Pat (Mavis), and Phyllis (Neil), six grandchildren; John (Stella), Heather, Darren; Michael (Erna); Shae and Cove; one great-grandchild, Shawna; one brother-in-law, Matt Sattler; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, siblings, her husband and one son.
If desired, donations may be made in Evelyn's honour to the Volunteers of Prince Albert Community Clinic, 110-8th Street East, P.A., SK S6V 0V7 or to a charity of the donor's choice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to, plant flowers in her memory this coming spring. At Evelyn's request, her body has been donated to the U of S College of Medicine for research. A celebration of her life will be held at the Prince Albert Legion, 133-8th Street East on March 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
