May 9th, 1948 - March 12th, 2011 - North Head, Grand Manan. With his family by his side, Stewart passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born at North Head he was the son of the late Francis and Bernice (Guptill) Thomas. Stewart spent his life before his illness on the sea; he was the Captain of The Heather Sea of Secunda Marine for several years then returning home to work as captain of several fishing boats sailing out of Grand Manan. He was a member of the North Head Baptist Church, an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 44, also an active member of the Grand Manan Liberal Association and the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council. He is survived by his wife Carolyn E. (MacPhee) Thomas at home, five daughters, Candace Dussault (Martin) of St. George, Crystal Cook (Scott) of St. George, Catharine Neves (Garth) of Bonnie River, Suzanne Gillie of Quispamsis, Kimberley McNamara (Rick) of Port Hawksbury, N.S., one son Frankie MacKinnon (Tamara) of Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S., one sister Carolyn Morse (Walter) Grand Harbour, two brothers Dr. Richard Thomas (Sheila), Moncton, Kenneth Thomas (Dianne), North Head, N.B., twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, March 15th, 2 to 4, 7 to 9 PM at ELLS FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be held from the North Head Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 16th, at 1:00 PM with Dr. Richard Thomas officiating, interment to follow in the North Head Community Cemetery.
