GWENDOLINE LYONS
1912 – 2009
Gwendoline Alexandra Lyons passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Loewen’s Care Home at the age of 96 years. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 20 from the Church of the Nazarene – 26 – 18th Street East, with Pastor Glen Stead and Pastor Gregg Rustulka officiating. Gwen was the oldest daughter of George and Alta Lyons and was born near Kindersley, SK on August 19, 1912. She was predeceased by her brother Harry Lyons; her sisters Thelma Stead and Ella Holmen. She leaves to mourn her passing her sisters Marie Brunsdon, Devessa Blair, Rena Boese; her brother Victor (Eva) Lyons; her sister-in-law Margaret Lyons; her brother-in-law Korey Holmen; her numerous nieces and nephews and families. “Gwen”, as she is known to her friends and family had an interest in nursing from childhood on. After leaving school Gwen worked at the Holy Family Hospital to earn enough money to pay for further education. She then moved on to Red Deer, Alberta to attend classes at the Canadian Nazarene College. She assisted a friend, Agnes in ministry for a few years. She returned to Prince Albert and began work at the Sanatorium as a nurse assistant and continued to pursue studies in that line. She nursed there until it was closed down and then went to work, in the same building, for the Training School until it finally closed as well. Gwen’s desire was always that her work would help needy people not only to find physical healing but spiritual as well. Gwen was active in serving God and fellow men and women. Her life was a testimony of what God can do in the surrendered life. Donations may be made to the Church of the Nazarene or to a charity of your choice. Interment will take place in the Garden of Christus, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. Special thanks to Brenda & Murray Loewen of Loewen’s Care Home for providing love and continuous care to Gwen.
