Arthur Blois Matheson, 75 of Sydney, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Tom and Florence Matheson.
Arthur was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. He was Past Master of Sydney Lodge #84, past District Deputy Grand Master of Cape Breton Center District, he was a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonary, Prince of Whales Chapter #10 and Cape Breton Preceptory and Philae Shriners.
Arthur always made sure children did not go without and donated privately to the Every Woman’s Centre, St. Andrew’s United Church, YMCA, and many other local families and organizations.
Arthur is survived and will be sadly missed by his family, Scott (Pamela) MacDonald, Shanice, Brady, Makayla, Jessie, Josie and a nephew, Robert ‘Bob’ Matheson.
Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by a brother, Ballem Matheson and family.
Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, with a masonic service at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, March 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
