On Thursday, March 10th Jack began his next journey while enjoying a late afternoon walk on the shores of the Thompson River with his wife of 47 years.

Born on January 29, 1945 in Castle Rock, B.C., Jack spent his early years in the Cariboo region with his parents Edwin and Mary, and brothers Stan (Kathy) and Hugh (Eileen).

His life truly began when he met Carrol 50 years ago this March and they built a wonderful life together around their family, and their children's families. He spent his life doing the things he enjoyed most, including vacationing with his family, family dinners, and countless hours hiking in Kenna Cartwright. Few weekends passed where he was not attending a sporting event for his children and then his grandchildren. There are hardly any swim venues, hockey arenas, ball diamonds, and soccer pitches that Jack hadn't visited.

Jack's strong work ethic was established early on as he worked alongside Grandpa (Alban) Sturgeon picking salal and starting Coast Evergreens with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sandra and Dave McBurnie. His entry into home building began in Powell River in 1965 with "Uncle Bob."

Jack was a well respected builder within the community, a past President of the Kamloops Homebuilder's Association, and a past Director on the New Home Warranty Board. His sons joined him in 1995 to form Kamwest Construction Ltd. and they built many homes together in and around the Kamloops and Sun Peaks area. Those who knew Jack enjoyed running into him around town and the easy conversations that followed. Jack was an unassuming, gentle, kind-hearted soul who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Husband to Carrol, dad to Jack Jr. (Bridgette), Sandra (Terry Ormrod), Steve (Sarah), grandpa to Brock, Tawni, Josh, Travis, Quinn, and Gabe, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, Jack created many memories that will last a lifetime.

An open house Celebration of his Life will be held between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th at Thompson Rivers University's Panorama Room on the 3rd floor of the International Building.
