Edward "Eddie" J Comeau, age 88, of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center on Saturday, July 18, 2009.
Born in Greater Shemogue, NB, he was a son of the late Napolean and Annie (Duguay) Comeau.
Edward worked for 25 years at the Dorchester and Springhill Prisons. He was in charge of the Vocational School, teaching various trades to inmates, such as carpentry and machine work. He played for the original Amherst Ramblers, and boxed in his younger days. He was an avid reader and gardener.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Madelyn (Coates); sons Donald (Hughet), Moncton, Wallace (Sandra), Amherst and Gary (Kathy), Halifax; daughter-in-law Patricia Comeau, Northport; step children Karen (Harry) Evans, Fredericton and Stuart (Kim) Nuttall, Maccan, step-daughter-in-law Beth Nuttall, Amherst; 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and sister Eileen Trembley, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his first wife Rita Brine, son Larry, step-son John Nuttall, and sisters Dorothy and Flora.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery.
