NEW GLASGOW – Helen Muriel (Gould) MacCallum, 90, of the Glen Haven Manor, and formerly of East River Road, New Glasgow, passed away suddenly at the Aberdeen Hospital on Thursday, March 17, 2011.
Born in River John, Helen was the daughter of Addison and Hilda (Henderson) Gould.
Helen moved to New Glasgow at an early age and lived on East River Road for over 50 years. Helen was an educator and taught school in several locations in Pictou County, as well as, The Adult Education Program. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, where she was in her early years Superintendent of Sunday School for 15 years. Helen loved to volunteer and for many years entertained at Glen Haven, Valley View Villa and River John with a group known as Betty and Friends.
She is survived by her son, Brant (Arlis) MacCallum, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Melanie MacCallum, UNB, N.B., and Kristie MacCallum, Cayman Islands.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, Charles MacCallum and son, Ronnie.
Helen’s remains will rest in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with visitation 6-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, from First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
