New Glasgow: Winnifred Gertrude Bean (nee Gough) age 82 of 191 Abercrombie Rd. New Glasgow passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow she was a daughter of the late Harry M. and Gladys (Rowe) Gough.
Winnifred lived her early life in New Glasgow, she then went on to live in P.E.I for some nine years and then to Sydney for 40 years having returned to New Glasgow in 1992. She taught school in Scotsburn for a time. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church ,New Glasgow. Winnifred was a member of the Atlantic Mission Society for over 50 years where she held several offices including past president. Winnifred had visited several mission areas overseas. An avid photographer, Winnifred’s home was adorned with her pictures.
Surviving is a sister Marion Dowell of Westville; special friends Andrea and Blair Quinn & family of New Glasgow, Mr. & Mrs. Hien (Henry) Nguyien of Northboro Mass., U.S.A and several nieces and nephews.
Winnifred was predeceased by her husband Rev. Dr. Everett H. Bean.
A celebration of life for Winnifred will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Public burial will be in the Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Donations in memory of Winnifred may be made to the Atlantic Mission Society, Winnifred Bean Bursary or to a charity of one’s choice.
