THORBURN – It is with heavy hearts that we say good-bye to our precious son, brother and uncle, Michael Wayne Grant of Thorburn.
Michael was born Dec., 3 1965 to Betty Lou (Auld) Semple, New Glasgow and Joe Grant, Lismore.
Michael attended East Pictou Rural High School and then continued on to Stellarton Vocational where he took the trade of welding, which he was so meticulous about. Michael was an avid fly fisherman and animal lover. A man of few words and great wit, he will forever be loved and greatly missed. He had been previously employed with Trenton Works, Custom Spring and Welding for 23 years and with Connor’s Transfer from 2007 until November 2010 when his cancer had returned.
Besides his parents he is survived by sister, Linda (George) Kirk and nephew, Mitchell, Thorburn; sister, Sheila (Carl) MacDonald, McAra’s Brook, Antigonish County; brother, Joe (Kelly) and step-daughter, Ashley, Berwick.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, William and Gertrude Auld, Thorburn; paternal grandparents, Mary Grant, Thorburn and Mike Grant, Windsor, ON.; step-father, Barry Semple, Lower Barney’s River; uncles, Angus Grant, Thorburn and Danny Grant, Tilbury, ON.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
