Matthew John Parsons, 71, of Oakhill passed away suddenly on Monday, July 20, 2009 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, he was a son o f Sarah (Williams) Parsons, Louisbourg, and the late Ernest Parsons.
Matt started working at 12 years of age at the fish plant in Louisbourg. He moved to Lunenburg in 1958 and was employed as a fisherman, by Lunenburg Sea Products on the Cape George. At age 45, he was disabled in an accident aboard a scallop dragger. He enjoyed watching western movies and in younger years played crib, pool, and liked to attend dances. Matt cared for and loved his family a great deal.
Besides his mother, he is survived by daughters, Debbie (Peter) Feener, Auburndale, Tanya Park, Blockhouse, and their mother, Myrtle Priscilla May, Clearland; sisters, Ida (Donnie) Eisen, Louisbourg; Alice (Paul) Peron, Espanola, Ontario, Joan (Billy) Wadden, Main-a-Dieu, Gladys (Andrew) Barter, Louisbourg; brothers, John (Loretta) Parsons, Louisbourg, Archie (Margie) Parsons, Albert Bridge, Ernie (Barbara) Parsons, Sydney; grandchildren, Dakota Parsons, Anikka and Kaylee Park, Chad Feener; son-in-law, Bruce Park and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg, where a service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment will take place in St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery, Louisbourg on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
