Eddy, Annie Florence ‘Nan’ (nee MacGregor) - Family and friends wish to advise that Annie Florence ‘Nan’ Eddy passed away peacefully in Grimsby, ON., July 20, 2009, in her 96th year. Born September 19, 1913 in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to her parents Malcolm MacGregor and his wife Jane (nee Parson), Nan was predeceased by them and her sisters.
Nan grew up and was educated in Nova Scotia and joined the R.C.A.F. to operate Radar equipment to monitor enemy aircraft activity in England during WWII. It was there that she met her beloved husband, Thomas John Eddy, who was also in the R.C.A.F. They were married in Toronto May 2, 1951, living on Toronto Island until Tom accepted a teaching position at Beamsville High School in Ontario. Nan also worked in the office at the school and they lived on their lakefront property on Mountainview Road for many years. In 1979 they retired to Victoria, B.C. but returned to the Vineland, ON area when Tom grew ill. He predeceased her January 5, 1998 and she then moved to a retirement home in St. Catharines where she continued to play bridge until her eyesight failed. A few years ago, her health deteriorated, and after a hospital stay, settled into a nursing home in Grimsby where she was comforted by her friend Wilamina ‘Willie’ Mechelse.
Nan leaves behind several nieces and nephews including Edward C ‘Ted’ Eddy of New Westminster, B.C., J. Brian Eddy of Calgary, Alta., Ms. Constance V. Eddy of Lethbridge, Alta., Dr. M. Charmaine Eddy of Peterborough, Mrs. H. Jeanette Dodge of Paris, ON, and Ms. Judi Sofroni of White Rock, B.C. Nan was predeceased by her niece, Mrs. Michelle C. McFarland, late of Verona, N.J., USA just last year.
Funeral Service for Nan will be held at the Vineland Chapel of the Tallman Funeral Homes, 3277 King St. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Alan Minarcik presiding. Interment will follow at Vineland Cemetery next to her husband of 47 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or your own favourite charity.
