Hill: Charles Reid, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 22, 2009, surrounded by his loving children. Born in Central Onslow on August 16, 1923, he was the son of the late George and Eva (McCurdy) Hill. A farmer, businessman and gentleman, he worked tirelessly to grow and promote the farm previously owned by his father and grandfather. Quiet and modest, he was a “True Rotarian”, proud of the work that the organization did worldwide and admiring if its members, many of whom he called friends. In earlier days, he was President of the NS Milk Producers Association. Predeceased by his beloved wife Leta (Lorraine), infant son Nelson Hugh and brother Edward (Ted), he leaves to mourn, children C. Geordie, E. Lorraine, Evelyn A., Dan R. and Susan L., twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, all of whom he so cherished. He is survived by brother Bob and sisters Margaret Bagnell, Emily McLellan, and Marion Olcott. We can’t say enough about the diligent care of the VON and the capable and kind professionals from Palliative Care and home support, who made it possible for Dad to remain on the farm the past few months. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. No visitation by family request. Funeral service to be held 2pm Sunday, July 26, at the Onslow United Church with Rev. Gerald Kerr officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will then be held at the Onslow Island Cemetery. Family flowers only. If you wish, you may make a donation in Charlie’s memory to the Truro Rotary House.
