WESTVILLE – Lewis Neil Watson, 82, Westville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Norman Allan and Gertrude Maude (Graham) Watson.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed with the Pictou Regional Housing Authority. Neil was a faithful member of Calvary Temple Church (The Life Center), New Glasgow where he had served as an Elder and in many other capacities. Neil read the Bible and prayed daily, living his faith as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was an avid hunter and a passionate fly fisherman. He was very proficient at Fly Tying and taught his craft to many friends. In sharing his love of the outdoors, he was a member of the Pictou County Rivers Association and the St. Mary’s River Association.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Irene (Walsh); daughters, Virginia (Rev. Tim) Hunt, Windsor, Ont.; Ellen Whitt, St. John’s, Nfld.; sons, Daniel (Debbie), Stellarton; Dale (Brenda), Valley; sisters: Roxie (Sid) Whitman, Fredericton, N.B.; Shirley Burns, Trail, B.C.; Flora (Barry) Blauvelt, Floral City, Fla.; Jean Watson, New Glasgow; sister-in-law, Darlene Watson, Ainsworth, B.C.; brother, Allen (Bev), Westville; grandchildren: Scott (Tami), Ryan (Kim), Faye (Brian), Cheryl, Billie, Amanda, Amy, Emily, Adrian; great-grandchildren, Yohanna, Jonah; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings: Helen Wallace, David; Virginia and Ronald in childhood.
The family will receive visitors 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Keith Hazzard officiating. Interment will be in Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Neil’s memory to the Parkinson Society Maritime Region or The Life Center.
