BARNEY’S RIVER STATION – Margaret Jean “Peggy” Williams, 75, Barney’s River Station, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the arms of her loving family at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, she was raised in Sutherland’s River, a daughter of the late Collingwood Grant and Mary (Sim) Ross.
She graduated from the former New Glasgow High School and Normal College, Truro. Peggy taught school throughout Pictou County for 27 years. She was an active member of Barney’s River Presbyterian Church, Kenzieville, having served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, auditor and choir member. She was a member of the Dr. E.G.B. Foote Auxiliary of the Atlantic Mission Society, UCT Pictonian Council No. 879 and the Retired Teachers Organization. She was a loving wife, amazing mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Elmer; son, Kent (Jane), New Glasgow; daughters, Joan Williams-Mann, Cochrane, Alta.; Nancy (Robert) Fulton, Merigomish; sisters, Amelia Fraser, Sutherland’s River; Nova Bannerman, Barney’s River Station; sister-in-law, Thelma Ross, Avondale; grandchildren: Amanda, Kristen and Rebecca Williams; Alexander, Christopher and Nicholas Mann; Derek and Alyson Fulton; great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Williams; several in-laws; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Vera Stewart; brother, Grant Ross; brothers-in-law, Hugh Stewart, Donald Bannerman and Gilbert Fraser
The family will receive visitors 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Barney’s River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Welch officiating. Interment will be in Glen Bard Cemetery, James River.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in Peggy’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Barney’s River Presbyterian Church.
