George McDougall

George A. McDougall of 152 Burpee St., Fredericton, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton after a lengthy illness. Born in Chatham, NB 80 years ago, he is survived by his wife of 53 years Frances Jean (Doherty) McDougall and daughters Shona (Colin) Pittman of St. Albans, Newfoundland; Dixie (Kirk) Firlotte of Minto and Leigh-Anne McDougall. Also survived by grandchildren Zachary George Firlotte, Alyssa Firlotte and his beloved dog Chico and 5 sisters Gertrude Greer, Catherine McDougall, Margaret (Ross) Francis, Clora Phair and Ellen DeWitt. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Frederick and Elizabeth (Cabel), brothers Jimmy, Frederick, Ebby and sisters May Goguen. George was a veteran of the Korean War in 1951 and 1952 as well as a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He had a wide array of hobbies including the Knights of Columbus, Gilbert & Sullivan volunteering on and off stage. George then continued on to Forest Ranger School graduating in 1953. He worked 37 years for the Canadian Forestry Service retiring in 1991. George enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren.
The body is resting at Bishops Funeral Home on Woodstock Rd., Fredericton, with visitation Sunday March 27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 with funeral service from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 28th at 4 PM with Father John Jennings officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the Lung Association or Arthritis Society.
