Passed on: March 21st, 2011
Kathleen passed away at Overlander Extended Care on Monday March 21, 2011. Peacefully, with her dear friend Brenda by her side, she made the final journey to once again join her husband Henry, the true love of her life. Mom was 92 years old.
Mom will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Phillip (Annette) Banks; grandchildren Chris (Debbie) Banks of Australia, Andrea Banks of Victoria, Kathy Banks of Vancouver and Marni Banks of Kamloops; great grandchildren Alastair and Lincoln Banks of Australia; daughters-in-law Fran Banks and Pam O'keefe, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mom shared a special bond with niece Cindy (Mark) Aldous of Calgary, AB.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Henry (1987) and son Arthur (1985).
"Kay" was born January 13, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta. At the age of nine she moved to Kamloops, where she enjoyed a very social and active life. She married her sweetheart Henry in 1941 and began her small family shortly after. Mom had many memorable experiences she often reminisced about. In 1938 she was a member of the B.C Championship Basketball Team. She enjoyed being a part of the Kamloops Curling Club, Kamloops Golf & Country Club and for 35 years a proud member and past Honoured Royal Lady of the Kamloops Royal Purple. "Bridge" was Mom's card game and the Desert Gardens Bridge Club provided many hours of fun and friendship.
The family would like to thank: Mom's long time doctor and friend Dr. Sze; more recently Dr. Sigalet who cared for her at Overlander bringing her gifts of books to keep her mind sharp; the staff at The Renaissance for their care while she resided there; R.I.H. where Mom spent a few months prior to "reluctantly" moving to Overlander.
We would especially like to express our thanks to the exceptional staff at Overlander for their love, friendship and above all the excellent care given our Mom during her stay. We understand change is always difficult, but the transformation we witnessed was nothing short of a miracle. Mom had a wicked sense of humour and loved to tease or share a good joke, therefore she quickly became an integral part of the "Overlander Family". She cultivated some beautiful friendships with both the staff and other residents. You were the "ANGELS" keeping watch when we could not be there. 'Biscuit', your visits provided the unconditional love reserved for babies and pets, softening Mom's transition.
At Kathleen's request there will be no formal service, however there will be a graveside service announced at a later date.
