MIKKELSON: Kenneth Frank Mikkelson, Age 87 years, of Swift Current, SK, passed away July 20, 2009 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The Funeral Service was held at The Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Greg Kiel of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church officiating. The interment service took place at the Leinan Cemetery, Leinan District SK. Pallbearers were: Reg Lopeter, Don Lopeter, Wayne Lopeter, Lance Lopeter, Jim Kazeil and Victor Reimer. He was predeceased by his parents: Knut and Stella (nee: Jacobson) Mikkelson; a brother Archie Mikkelson; a sister Elaine Lopeter; brothers-in-law: Tony Scanlon and Robert Garies. He is survived by: two sisters: Marge Scanlon and Irene Garies and many nieces and nephews. Ken was born June 22, 1922 on the family farm in the Leinan District, SK. He attended school at Leinan School which was located on the same quarter of land where he lived. Ken played ball with local ball teams around Leinan. He worked for some of the neighbors in the 1930's, Hilding Bolinder one winter and Dick Lopeter in summer and fall when they had a combine together. Ken was around the district most of his life except for one a one half years during World War 11, when he was with the Canadian Army. He farmed with his dad and his brother Archie until he sold out in 1978. He moved to reside in Swift Current shortly after and lived at the Prairie Pioneers Lodge until his passing.
