The death of George Lowther, age 73, of Amherst, formerly of Leicester, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Friday, July 24, 2009. Born in Leicester, he was a son of the late Robert and Isabel (Carter) Lowther.

George retired from the RCAF in 1986 with 30 years of service. The last 20 years he lived in Trenton, ON, having served throughout Canada. He was a hobby woodworker.

George was a good husband and father and will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Gwynneth (Rathwell); daughter, Donna (Ray) Niemelainen; a son, Robbie; 2 grandchildren, Zachary and Gideon; brothers, Harold (Mabel) and Francis (Jean) Lowther; and a sister Jane Lowther, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Keith (1997).

George's remains have been entrusted into the care of the W. Allen Funeral Home, Oxford (447-2167). A time of gathering and fellowship by family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10 am,at the W. Allen Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Leicester Cemetery.
