We, the family of Lawrence Francis Campbell, announce his peaceful passing on March 31, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Whitney Pier, Sydney, Lawrence was the son of the late John R. and Mary (Young) Campbell.
Lawrence resided in Sydney all his life and was employed with Sydney Steel Plant working for 43 years in the Open Hearth Department until his retirement.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nora (Herrell); children, Linda Burke, Joe (Diane), Betty (Bill) Smith, John-Maynard, Virginia (Bill) Muise, Jacqueline Clyke, Glen (Michelle); grandchildren, Natasha (Tom) Hum, Melissa (Arthur) Thorne, Brian Burke, Joanne Campbell, Allan Campbell, Jennifer Muise, Justine Muise, Angelia Smith, Chris Smith, Matthew Campbell, Jonathan Campbell, Bailee Clyke; great-grandchildren, Madison and Lily Hum, Evalea Smith. Lawrence is also survived by brother, Archie (Pearl) Campbell; two, sisters-in-law, Velda (Albert) Bell and Gloria Batchilder, P.E.I.; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by brothers, Joseph and Ernest and sisters, Ann Hartigan and Rose Rose.
Visitation for Lawrence will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, April 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Liturgy of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, April 4 at Holy Redeemer Church, with Fr. Errol MacDonald presiding. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Following the interment, a reception will be held at Holy Redeemer parish.
Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Redeemer Church Building Fund or charity of choice.
