Sister Kathleen Gorman (Sister St. Patrick of the Cross) died peacefully Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the CND Health Care Center in Sydney.
Born in Antigonish, N.S., she was the daughter of the late John P. and Margaret (MacKinnon) Gorman, all from Antigonish County.
Sister Gorman made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame on Aug. 30, 1938. Sister taught in various schools in the Cape Breton area, including Sydney Mines, Port Hood, Mabou, New Victoria, Holy Angels High School, Sydney as well as in New Glasgow and Larry’s River. After retiring from teaching, Sister spent nine years rendering service in Drayton Valley, Alta. In 2003, due to failing health Sister Gorman took up residence at the CND Health Care Center in Sydney.
Sister was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Mona MacDonald, Antigonish, and Irene Reyno, Halifax. She was also predeceased by one brother, William. Sister leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Sister Gorman will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Monday, April 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Anthony Daniel Church on Tuesday, April 5 at 2 p.m., with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
