It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother Mary Ann (Cogan) Pink, on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at her residence on Peppett Street surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Codroy, N.L., in 1913, Mary was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie Collier. Mary immigrated to Canada during the 1930s and took up residency in North Sydney, where she worked, got married, raised a family and an extended family. She worked for a number of years at Grants Hotel and then later at Kentucky Fried Chicken. Our mother took great pride in being a homemaker, caregiver and an all-round friend to her family and neighbors. She excelled in making everyone who crossed her doorstep feel welcome and she did not take a back seat to anyone when it came to preparing a great meal. A devout and faithful member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Mary was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister to all and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her sons, Edward J. (Agnes) Cogan, Antigonish, James (Georgie) Cogan, John (Irene) Cogan and Robert MacKinnon, all of North Sydney; her daughters, Mary Theresa Curtis, Kitchener, Geraldine (Andre) Cote, Sydney, and Julia (Terry) Gallagher, Cambridge; sisters, Elizabeth MacDonald, Pearl Samms, Susan Hilliard, Alma (John Tom) Hilliard, Vivian (Cecil) Osmond and Blanche (Gus) Downey; and brother, Joseph (Florence) Collier, all residents of Newfoundland. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; many nieces and nephews and a very truly special and life long friend, Regina (Reggie) Jobe.
Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Cogan and her second husband, Roy Pink, her brothers, James, Thomas, Charles and Clifford, all residents of Newfoundland.
Visitation for Mary will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
