It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Phil Evans on Monday, March 28, 2011.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Llewellyn ‘Lew’ and Lena Evans. In his younger years Phil worked with C.N. Marine, later with Allen Ice Co. in North Sydney and until the time of his death, he was a Parks attendant with Natural Resources. He loved to spend time in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, fly tier, hunter and trapper, and a proud member of the North Sydney Wildlife Association. He enjoyed fishing the Margaree River and cooking whatever his catch of the day was. Phil had a great sense of humour and his laugh seemed larger than life.
He is survived by Joan Evans, mother of his daughter, Jennifer (John Donovan) and his son, John (Alisha Devoe), both of North Sydney; his four grandchildren, Hunter, Jersey, Brianna, Brady and by his siblings, Brent (June) of Point Aconi, Patsy, Georges River, Beth (Denise) of Yarmouth, Vivian (Colin) of Margaree Valley, Harvey (Kathy) of North Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Phil was predeceased by his brother, David.
Visitation for Phil will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
