Mary Katharine Mackintosh (nee Mackay) 1941-2011
Our Mary Kay slipped away peacefully April 5 in the Victoria General Hospital with her husband and children beside her after a brief bout with cancer. Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia of Katharine Relief Mackay (Williams) and Alexander Caswell Mackay (both deceased), she was pre-deceased by her twin sister Janet Anne in infancy, and grew up with her three brothers in Sutherland’s River, Pictou County. She is survived by her husband Robert Douglas Mackintosh in Lower Sackville; daughter Tanya Katharine Tuckman (Fisher), son-in-law Michael Tuckman, grandsons Christopher and Matthew Tuckman, step-granddaughters Ashley and Tabitha Tuckman, all of Florida; her son Geoffrey Lorne Fisher of New Zealand; her former husband Lorne Fisher; and her brothers Alexander Henry (Sandy) of New Jersey, John Wisdom (Jock) of Montreal, and David Burns Mackay of Saint John, N.B. She studied at East Pictou Rural High School, Mount Allison University, and Mount St. Bernard College at St. F. X. Mary Kay worked for several years in the Office of the Registrar at Dalhousie University and since 1980 in the office of the Halifax Regional School Board. Mary Kay’s simple charm and grace, her kindness, as well as her deep commitment to family and friends will be sorely missed. Funeral will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 60 Beaverbank Road in Lower Sackville on Saturday April 9 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society-Nova Scotia Division.
