It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Reid on Tuesday April 5, 2011 in the An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Reid of Sydney.
Helen was a hairdresser by trade. She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family. Helen was a proud graduate of the Culinary Arts Program at NSCC Marconi Campus. Helen sold baked goods and chocolate from her home.
She was survived by her friend and father of her children Robert ‘Snootter’ Leyte; her three children, whom she loved dearly, Ashley, Robert and Gregory Leyte; her sister, Marion MacLellan (Darrell Tobin); brothers, Gordon Reid (Joyce Paul), Manning Reid; brother-in-law Angus; and mother-in-law Sylvia Leyte. Among many cousins, nieces and nephews, she will be especially missed by cousins, who spent numerous hours with her, Lorraine, Ann, Cathy and Elaine.
She was predeceased by her brother, Billy Reid.
Visitation will take place at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations may be made to the Palliative Care in memory of Helen.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the An Cala Unit, Palliative Care for their care and compassion toward Helen.
