Robert Charles Hagell Sr. (1922 – 2011)
Passed away April 5, 2011. Bob was born in Halifax and had many fond memories of growing up in Herring Cove, Halifax, Co. He served overseas in World War 2 in the BC Armoured Division. He was involved in the Battle of Falise and was part of the liberation of Belgium and the Netherlands. After the war he learned his trade as an electrician. He worked at the Moncton Airport and then at the Halifax International Airport. He was involved in the design stage through the construction of the airport and was the Electrical Supervisor when he retired in 1984. Dad married Irene Purdy in 1948. He is survived by his children; Robert Jr. (Christine), Jim (Sue), Brian (Susan), Ann and Liz (Neil); 8 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all of the people who cared for Dad including Earth Angels and during his most recent illness, the ER and ICU staff at the Colchester Regional Hospital. The family is especially grateful for the friendship, care and support provided to Dad, over the years, by his Phillip St neighbours. No visitation by family request. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service on Saturday at 1:45 pm and directly followed by funeral service at 2 pm, in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. A reception will follow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the IWK Health sciences Centre or the charity of your choice
